get in my belly

We did it! We started rice cereal today and let me tell you, it was extremely rewarding. I had been thinking about starting the rice cereal for a few weeks now but Johanna's pediatrician said breastfed babies don't start solids until they are 6 months old. Here's why I started it anyway…. 1. She is extremely hungry during the day. Mainly because she sleeps through the night. I find myself nursing her every hour to 2 hours. 2. She doesn’t nap during the day. Probably because shes hungry and would prefer to be nursing. After speaking to a few women at a work meeting today, I decided to go for it. These aren't just any women mind you, I trust them 100 percent especially when it comes to things that have to do with Johanna. It's always good to have a few people you can ask advice and be able to trust what they say. Boy, I am so glad I did. So today, after our work meeting, Johanna and I made a pit stop at target. Okay, let's be real it wasn't a pit stop at all. We bought more than just cereal but who can actually walk out of target with only the item(s) they went in for? Anyways, we bought the Gerber organic rice cereal. On our way home I was so anxiously excited and nervous at the same time. I was reading the label at every stop light! Now Johanna obviously had no idea what was going on but I'm pretty sure she could tell I was acting different. Or maybe she couldn't, I'm not actually sure. So I put baby girl in her fancy new high chair, mixed the rice cereal with some breast milk and went for it. She absolutely loved it! As a matter of fact, it kind of seemed like maybe she had eaten from a spoon before. Hmmmmm. I thought no way is this that easy?! But it was!!!! Here’s why it was so rewarding starting her on cereal today. 1. She loved it! 2. She took an hour and a half nap in her crib with no fuss. Of course I was texting my 3 trustees during the entire ordeal when I probably should've been relaxing myself but I was overjoyed and so overwhelming grateful for these women, I couldn't help myself! I guess I was just so excited at the fact that I knew for sure her belly was full and her taste buds were satisfied. This baby does not nap between 11am and 830pm. If she does, its it's for about 5 or 10 minutes. She will rub her eyes, nod off or doze off for a few minutes but she fights her sleep like a champ. At our work meeting today, my ladies saw exactly what I was talking about. Now I can't be sure that she doesn't nap because she doesn't want to miss her chance to nurse. But after today, I know that she is able to get a full belly and take longer naps! On that note, her 4 month check up is tomorrow! I guess we will have to see how much trouble we are in for starting solids. For the new Mama's reading this, babies usually start rice cereal around 4 months but I am not a doctor so don't do what I did! Listen to your pediatrician! Wish me luck tomorrow!
